Building Belonging For Everyone

A rich social life and meaningful relationships are crucial for a high quality of life. Stone Belt’s Spiritual Support Program helps individuals with disabilities cultivate natural supports and community connections.

Spiritual Engagement

We aim to grow the experience of belonging for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their community, through the process of self exploration to identify spiritual needs, discovery of the community and how these needs match, connecting to others to build meaningful relationships, and fading out of staff support to build ongoing, natural support from the community.

Building Belonging Cohort

Through Building Belonging, faith communities and their congregations enter into an intentional and committed partnership with Stone Belt and one another, coming together to address barriers of access and inclusion for people with disabilities.

Cohort members work together to assess, reflect, plan and implement steps towards ensuring that everyone can access belonging. Each cohort engages in this work through regular meetings over the course of several months, and continued consultation after the cohort’s duration.

Grief Support

Death, loss, and change are natural parts of all of our lives. Stone Belt’s Spiritual Support Coordinator, Dr. Sarah McKenney, M. Div. D Min., provides grief counseling to clients who experience death and non-death grief, as well as providing end-of-life planning and support to client families, staff members, and community partners.
